Vote Today

Today the voters of AL went to the polls to see if they will correct their tax structure.  I wonder if enough of us can vote "yes" to affect change.  The pundits say that the referendum will fail.  I'll be so sad if it does.  However, change is difficult, no impossible!  If only people would walk through some of these high schools and see the poor facilities and lack of focus.  You can see that the parents are failing first, and the community is failing too.

Why is it that taxes are so hard to figure out? I sure don't know the answer. In our new town, which doesn't have a home in it valued at under $600K (agh! don't know how they let us in) pays quite a bit in real estate taxes. However, the state funding for the school is something like 994 out of 996 (that's right, almost the lowest funded in the STATE of California).

Part two: So, to make up for the major shortfall, the community created a non-profit. Last school year it raised over 1 million dollars, PLUS the local equalivent of the PTAs put in several hundred thousand more for each school. WAY crazy. The good thing is that, if I'm going to pay taxes, at least I know where this money goes and I think we get a deduction for it :)
